I’m typing this madly while Nigella Lawson’s voice beams out from my TV. This recipe looks so simple and easy, with a food match made in heaven – pears and chocolate. She’s making it as the followup to a delicious roast chicken.

2 cans of pears
125g/4.5oz plain flour
125g/4.5oz caster sugar
25g/.88oz cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp bicarbonate soda
150g/5.3oz soft, unsalted butter
2 tsp good vanilla extract
2 eggs

Preheat oven to 220C/428F. Drain the two cans of pears and spread the halves, with the hump side up in a ceramic or tin dish. Put all the other ingredients in a blender and blitz to make a thick batter. Don’t worry if it’s thick because the pear juice will make it runnier. Spread the chocolate sauce over the pears. Bake on the bottom shelf of the oven for 20-25 minutes. Don’t cook it too long… otherwise it will lose its gooeyness (always ere on the side of undercooked with oven puddings).
